For a couple of years I have blogged here as a Christian but tonight, I write as a Canadian. The massive 25% tariff charges unjustifiably imposed on Canadians will have devastating effects on our struggling economy, as well as for Americans. President Trump cited that illegal border crossing and Fentanyl trafficking was the cause for these damaging tariffs when in reality less than 1% of the drug crosses over the American border. Trudeau has repeatedly been trying to reach President Trump to dialogue with him but so far he has failed to take a call from him. In order to offset the gross deficit imposed on Canada without any viable explanation and negotiations, he will likwise impose 25% tariff charges on 155 billion dollars of U.S. goods. And it’s tragic for everyone on both sides of the fence.
I resided in the U.S. and stood for the greater good of America and in strong support of Veterans for years – the ravages of war is a terrible thing… During that time, I was blessed and thankful for having made treasured connections with good friends in special places. And though I absolutely cannot in good conscience support the agenda of the present leadership in our nation (Acts 5:29), Trudeau’s speech brought to remembrance the many ways that Canadians have helped Americans during times of crisis. I was there during 9-11 when our country came to the aid of distraught Americans and when we prayed and wept with them. Yes, it is perplexing and Canadians feel deeply betrayed that it has come to this. And yet, it is during moments like these that we have to very quickly remind ourselves that this world is not our real home and to set our sights on the one and only true King and the Kingdom He has prepared for His people. I encourage Canadians to pray for our nation and also for the American people who will be affected by this trade war. President Trump ought to be carefully reminded that this is not the Christian way to treat American allies and that this nation, which was built with our fathers’ and forefathers’ blood, sweat and tears, is not for sale.
Keep the Faith, it will be needed for coming days.
